Join us for Opening Day of the Summer Market! Sat, May 6th, 8AM-1:30PM

We are excited to announce the opening of the Summer Market season, this Saturday, 8:00 – 1:30. Due to the very wet and chilly winter, many of our growers are 2 – 3 weeks behind their usual schedule. If you don’t see a vendor whose booth you usually patronize, this is why. Don’t worry, they will be in the market in the next week or two! Like all of us, they are waiting for a little more sunshine. Despite the winter weather set-backs, we are happy to announce that local asparagus will be in abundance on opening day. Try this quick and easy recipe for Oven Roasted Asparagus with Garlic, Parmesan and Lemon. It is a bright and lively side dish which would be especially good with poached eggs for Sunday Brunch. While field grown strawberries are several weeks away, Tom Denison of Denison Farms, worked his strawberry magic in covered tunnels and was able to harvest two hundred flats of organic strawberries which he will have in his booth on Saturday. This year we welcome a new hot food vendor to our line-up of tasty food to eat while at the market – Salvador Molly’s will be making quinoa bowls and salt roasted sweet potatoes, which you can top with your choice of savory toppings such as bacon, caramelized onions, pickled beets or fresh corn relish!

Also new to the market this year are natural skin care products. Because we know that customers are as concerned about what they put on their bodies as they are about what they put in their bodies, we have added some creative skin care products made from natural, ethically produced ingredients. Chat with the creators of these products about your skin care needs – Essance Skincare, Tiger Lily Beauty Bar and Lion & Rose Handmade Soap. For all of you dog lovers, visit Bonsante (meaning “good” and “health”), makers of nutritionally rich pet food that will enhance your pet’s life. Piping Puppy makes healthy non-meat treats for dogs. While we do not allow dogs in the market (their leashes create tripping hazards in our busy aisle) we love our furry friends and feel that good nutrition is as important for them as it is for us. Please note: our Sit N Stay doggie day care, located in the park adjacent to the market, will not be open until May 13th! If you are planning a vegetable garden this year, our growers will have a great selection of starts that are particularly well suited to the Willamette Valley. If you are uncertain about which varieties to choose, just ask for advice from the grower in the stall. They will be able to tell you about each of the plants and what it will need to thrive. Tradition has it that the Beaverton Community Band always performs on opening day. Enjoy their fun and lively music all day as we celebrate the opening of our 30th season.
