MARKET WELLNESS WEEKENDS and MARKET SPROUTS 2013:
 
June 1st: BE KIND TO EARTH DAY:
Join us as we celebrate with local groups and organizations who work to keep our area and our world a beautiful place to thrive! Participating organizations include: Beaverton Water Conservation, Oregon Environmental Council, the North Coast State Forest Coalition and Wetlands Conservatory.
 
June 1st: MARKET SPROUTS KICK-OFF AND ACTIVITY:
We invite kids from ages 5-12 to sign up for our kids club, Market Sprouts and participate in activities and scavenger hunt clues designed to inspire kids to participate in our local food system. At our sign-up event, kids will be given a Market Sprouts passport, reusable bag and a veggie start to the first 200 participants! Kaiser Permanente Nutritionist on hand with a fun activity.
 
June 8th: LIONS CLUB GLASSES COLLECTION:
Bring your no longer used prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and plastic and metal frames to the market on June 8th and help the Cedar Hills Lions Club provide sight through recycled glasses. Children's glasses are especially needed.
 
June 15th: FURRY FRIENDS DAY:
Honor the animals that enrich our lives in so many ways by learning about the work of local organizations committed to bettering the lives of animals and the people who love them. There will be a search and rescue demonstration provided by Search One K-9 Search and Rescue. Also present will be the Oregon Ferret Shelter, the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon and the Bonnie Hayes Small Animal Shelter.

Joe’s Burgers sponsors a “burger” cupcake build
 
July 6th: FARMERS ENDING HUNGER:
Farmers Ending Hunger will be at the market today with the ever-popular all fruit and veggie, all local Mr. Potato Head Build for the kids!
 
July 13th: TEN TINY DANCES
The Beaverton Arts Commission presents a day of artistic improvisation as ten different troupes present their dances on a tiny stage. One stage is located right in the Beaverton Farmers Market!

July 27th: TV GLEANERS FOOD DRIVE:
3rd Annual Buy a Bunch for the Hungry! You can help a neighbor out. Food and Personal supplies donations gladly accepted. Donations will be distributed throughout Washington County by the Tualatin Valley Gleaners, a partner of the Oregon Food Bank.
 
July 27th: MARKET SPROUTS ACTIVITY:
Fun activities to create awareness of the challenges of accessing healthy food.
 
August 3rd: KIDS 55+:
Welcoming Kids 55+ to get to know (and maybe join!) area organizations whose work directly effects their life, such as Elders in Action, Ride Connection and Meals on Wheels. Kaiser Permanente will be on hand with health providers and dieticians able to answer your questions. Beaverton’s own THPRD Elsie Stuhr Center will also be around to talk about recreational opportunities for the 55+ crowd.
 
August 3rd: MARKET SPROUTS ACTIVITY:

August 17th: Healthy Relationships Day:
Get to know about the inspiring work that is being done by Adorned in Grace, a donation-based wedding and formal ware studio whose mission includes outreach to at-risk girls. The Domestic Violence Resource Center will be on hand as well as some Mental Health experts from Kaiser Permanente. You might even catch a glimpse of the bridal dancers!
 
August 17th: MARKET SPROUTS ACTIVITY:

August 31st: LATINO DAY:
• Latin style fiesta with authentic música from Grupo Condor
• Folkloric dancing presented by Ballet Papalotl.
• Presentation by local 4-H Latino group
• Beaverton Hispanic Resource Center and City of Beaverton Spanish Speaking Mediation team
 
August 31st: MARKET SPROUTS ACTIVITY:

September 14th: BACK TO SCHOOL:
Start the school year off right with inspirational ideas and activities from our friends at Camp Fire Columbia and the Beaverton YMCA. The Master Preservers will be on hand to give you some ideas of healthy school lunch items that you can preserve right now and Beaverton Chiropractic and AWARE will give advice and take questions on staying healthy during the upcoming cold season.

• Biking to school safely with Washington County Crime Prevention
• Prepare for the upcoming cold weather season

September 28th: MARKET SPROUTS FINALE:
The final Market Sprouts activity of the year (scavenger clues will still be around EVERY MARKET DAY) will be a super fun, fast growing dirt baby that the kiddos can nurture and groom all winter long!
